There are two true species of philodendron that also go by the name split-leaf philodendron: Philodendron bipinnatifidum and Philodendron selloum. While a lot of Philodendron species vine, true split-leaf Philodendron (Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum or formerly the Philodendron Selloum) do not. Thaumatophyllum Bipinnatifidum has trunks and deeply lobed leaves that are not as smooth or as round and heart-shaped as the Monstera deliciosa. The split-leaf philodendron (Monstera deliciosa), also known as the Swiss cheese plant, gets its name from the notches on its leaves. A popular houseplant, split-leaf philodendrons can also survive Philodendron selloum, Philodendron Hope, or "Philo" for short, is one of the many plant varieties in the Philodendron genus.
